Sunnydale Block 6

San Francisco, CA

As part of the HOPE SF program, BŌK Modern contributed to the 100% affordable housing project with Mercy Housing California and The Related Companies of California on the redevelopment of Sunnydale Block 6. The project includes sunshades with repeating rectangular patterns on each of the two buildings. Three types of BŌK Modern decorative cladding, a thin wire mesh pattern, vertical slats, and another that is evocative of wooden horizontal deck balusters, adorn bump outs throughout the project.

The buildings have a combined 167 family units with public spaces within the larger complex, which also includes lobbies, ground level gardens, and media alcoves. Site planners used the natural slope of the area to allow for direct street entry into the garage, trimming costs by reducing the need for excavation while improving aesthetics by preventing the need for unsightly parking structures. The design also includes support spaces such as lobbies, laundry rooms, media alcoves and property manager offices, located to maximize security.
