EnFold Façade worked with SOM and Mark Cavagnero Associates Architects on a significant expansion to the Moscone Convention Center in downtown San Francisco.
EnFold Façade’s team developed a ‘self-reinforcing,’ staggered, three-story tall scrim (screening system). The staggered arrangement of panels increases the strength of the system and all but eliminates the need for heavy, structural steel backing, which allows the scrim to ‘hang’ from a single row of structure at the roof line and to be simply pinned out from the building for lateral support only. SOM’s custom ‘diamond’ patterning in a white Kynar finish provides the illusion of a third dimension to the otherwise flat screens.
