Oakland, CA
Positioned near the West Oakland BART train station and built in collaboration with David Baker Architects, BŌK Modern’s creativity and ingenuity are on full display at The Union.
Our scope for this project spans all four perimeters and consists of rainscreens with integrated sunshades, riveted panels, perimeter fencing with blade brackets, aluminum balconies, Cor-Ten guardrails and stair guardrails, and gate shrouds. One particular challenge of this project required the rainscreens to be cantilevered off of the building due to its design. We managed to easily modify our panels to suit these unique conditions.
With installation now underway, the process has been straight forward. Balconies are assembled on the ground and raised into position. The sunshades, which have irregular brackets, are unified by universal slots across three panel types.
BŌK Modern’s custom patterning has been applied to the transitional façade selected by the architect to create visual unity and a seamless brand identity for this up-and-coming development. Whereas precedent affordable housing projects are typically simple and unnoticed, EnFold Façade’s transformation of The Union provides an attainable vision of affordable housing with an elegant, unique visual depth despite cost limitations.
